De Re Marcellus was a site specific installation at the Central Library, Buffalo, NY as Part of the Echo Art fair. Working with the Central Library Rare Book Collection, the installation focuses on the relationship established by Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover’s English translation of George Agricola’s seminal book on geology/mining/mineralogy, De Re Metallica, and its stone veneer “shadow” cast in the shape of the Marcellus shale formation. The work tangentially connects the historical impact of this first book on geology and mining to the contemporary local issue revolving around extracting natural resources of the Marcellus Shale.

The work also connects to my artist book Shale which was recently acquired/purchased for the Rare Book Collection.
